PEARSONS HALL RENOVATION
Claremont, CA
COMPLETION DATE: 2003
OWNER: Pomona College
CONTRACTOR: Tovey/Shultz Construction, Inc.
Originally built circa 1898, Pearsons Hall had undergone a number of renovations during which many of the original distinguishing details were removed. During this renovation, the design team used historical photographs to recreate these missing details and to provide direction for internal and external improvements that paid homage to its history. As with most of our historic preservation work, this project also involved updating the building to meet modern building codes and occupant needs. To meet these needs, two wings were added to the building that provided space for an elevator, stairs, and a mechanical room. In addition, gunite structural walls were installed to upgrade the building's seismic protection, and interior spaces used as offices, classrooms, and a library were reconfigured.
